The Portal Bahagian Pengambilan Pelajar Politeknik is a portal managed by the KPT (Kementerian Pelajaran Tinggi) or Ministry of Higher Education. It is the portal which is used to manage all the applications from Malaysian students who are looking to enroll in polytechnic programmes offered by institutes of higher learning managed by the government around Malaysia.
There are 2 pathways that Malaysians can apply into the KPT’s polytechnics. The most common method is through their SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) qualification while they can apply to these institutions through other qualifications apart from SPM but its equivalent as well.
There are many programmes that one can apply into and this will all be managed by the Bahagian Pengambilan Pelajar of the Jabatan Pengajian Politeknik of the ministry. In order to facilitate the application, the student must take note of the important dates so that they are aware of what to do when they have been shortlisted.
Applications are usually accepted in the beginning of the year where students can apply to the Diploma Politeknik Premier & Konvensional/METrO programmes. These courses are specifically catered for those who have finished their SPM or equivalent levels. In March, the advertisement for application into the KPT Polytechnics will be placed in most major newspapers around the country.
Throughout the year, there will be applications accepted for various programmes like the Diploma Lanjutan for those who finished their KPT Diploma Politeknik as well as for those who have passed their Sijil Politeknik KPT through Kolej Komuniti, Matrikulasi KPM, Institut Pertanian Malaysia and Institut Kemahiran Tinggi PERDA.
After that, applicants would need to check when their interview sessions will be held and attend them as scheduled. Once the session is over, the results of their applications will be published with new student’s enrolment taking place around June.
Through the Portal Bahagian Pengambilan Pelajar Politeknik, students and applicants can now check for any updates that will help to facilitate their applications into the IPTAs and polytechnics. This is where the applicants can find out about any related information pertaining to their applications like the entry requirements, the documents that are needed and any other supporting information that must be provided.
There will be schedules of interviews, guides on what to do during the interviews and where to find help if needed. There will be all the detailed information about all the courses that are offered and available through the department. Students can find out about what are their choices and options if they apply for a specific course through their SPM qualifications where they might be applying into the Politeknik Premier, Politeknik Konvensional & METro or through the Sijil Politeknik, the Sijil Kolej Komuniti, the Sijil Institut Kemahiran or through the Diploma Politeknik.
On top of that, a full and complete list of Polytechnic institutes around the country is provided in the portal as well so that students can be aware of where they can pursue the course they are interested in and do so through this one-stop centre.
